Records at The National Archives

John Malcolm worked for the Company as it had strong connections to Orkney – their ships had been landing in Stromness to employ men to work in the “Nor-Wast” from around 1702.

Indeed, by the late-18th century approximately three-quarters of those working in Canada for the Company were from the Orkney Islands. Further details can be found at this website.

With the Company having such a solid history it has also accumulated a substantial archive housed both in the UK, at The National Archives, and Canada as part of the Archives of Manitoba.
