Hi. My name is Seth and I’m the new production editor of the magazine – my predecessor Sarah Orme has left the magazine to work in social media.

I’ve been working in magazines for 20 years or so, and recently spent six-and-a-half years at BBC Wildlife Magazine. It’s my job to ensure that the magazine goes to press on time, and that the articles are free of errors and are as clear and easy to read as possible.

My mum is very keen on family history and has gathered a lot of information from elderly relatives, so I’m looking forward to really getting to grips with the subject, building on her research and taking things further.

At the moment we have traced most sides of the family back to the late 1700s, but there are exceptions and problems, including the understandable challenges of tracing relatives who lived in Wales called Evans!

I was pleased to learn that some of my forebears were really quite respectable, including a great great grandfather who worked as a lamplighter in Bristol, the owner of a match factory and several lacemakers from Honiton in Devon.

However, I’m more intrigued by the discovery of less reputable relatives, including a sailor who was running two families simultaneously and several criminals, and can only imagine the depths to which my forebears might have sunk…
